Hercules and the Love Affair-Painted Eyes.
I am addicted to this song and have been listening to it non-stop since I bought the album yesterday. Love the strings, love the voice, love the beats!
Curve-Beyond Reach….I saw Curve at the Troubadour back when I was in college. Loved the vocals on this album.
I will be posting a video a day from an artist that will be at the 2011 Coachella festival that I’m interested in checking out. Here is the first one….Alf Alpha will be @ coachella on Saturday.
Mamma’s Brick Oven Pizza in South Pasadena
Rachy and I tried a new restaurant on Friday (Adriana’s recommendation)…and have happily found a great brick oven style pizza joint. We started with a salad and garlic knots which were good (but I like Tarantino’s garlic knots a bit more); these were good nonetheless. Next we tried the baked ziti…penne pasta baked in tomato sauce with ricotta, parmigiano, and mozzarella cheeses- YUM! It was difficult to decide on which pizza to choose…Adriana recommended The Roma which had roma tomatoes, feta cheese, fresh basil, and fresh garlic. Although that one sounded delicious, Rachel and I opted for the The Grandma’s -a 16x16 square pizza topped with margherita sauce, olive oil, fresh mozarella, fresh basil, and fresh garlic. What I liked specifically about this place is that the pizza was thin crust, but not at all soggy in the middle. The dough was crispy all the way through. We will definitely be returning to this place.

Keep in mind that there is a lot of road construction going on in front of the place, but there is plenty of parking in the back. Also, it seems like a lot of people take their food to go because there’s not a lot of seating inside.
Check it out!
Wow…. interesting. Will we be seeing these on the streets of Silverlake?????? Read the full article on this trend at http://www.refinery29.com/everywhere/trends/trend-watch
Yin and Yang-My new favorite corner in Pasadena
One of my favorite pastimes is finding new restaurants, and everybody knows that Pasadena has many culinary gems. Two of my current favorites can be found next to each other on the corner of Hill and Union. And they couldn’t be any more different from each other! They do have two things in common: deliciousness and a good deal for your $$!
For those of you who aren’t watching your calorie intake, there is….
Doghaus-a delicious haus of brats, sliders, hotdogs, fries, and tots. My favorite thing to order is the Little Leaguer -a hotdog covered in meaty chili, cheese, onions, and fritos! The best part of the hotdog is that the bun is Hawaiian bread, so you get a nice sweetness mixed in with all the saltiness. The last time I went I tried the slider-the white american cheese is melted into the meat, so one is just not enough!
All of Doghaus’ sides are amazing; onion rings, sweet potato fries with blue cheese dressing, and the tator tots remind you of those tots we used to love at lunch time as kids. If you are interested in seeing the rest of the menu, check it out http://www.doghausdogs.com/
For those who are watching your weight, the other healthier alternative is M-Local Mediterranean Grill.
I tried this place last night, and it’s a good amount of food for the price you pay. We ordered garlic fries (which we split) and then I ordered a Persian Koubideh Beef (filet mignon) Combination Plate. The plate came with a Mediterranean salad-fresh greens, tomato, kalamata olives, feta cheese, onions, and balsamic dressing, Persian-style basmati rice, and pita bread. It also came with roasted tomato and bell pepper. Delicious and fresh!
Some other things that caught my eye was the falafel sandwich and the mediterranean paninis. If you want to see the rest of the menu, check it out http://www.mlocalgrill.com/
Both places have vegetarian options, so happiness for all!!!!
